P rather Ranch is proud to offer the first commercially available certified organic strawberry nursery plants.

Our nursery plants are grown in the fertile fields of Butte Valley, located on the Prather Ranch Headquarters. Butte Valley is north of Mount Shasta, located in northern Siskiyou County near the California & Oregon border.

Prather Ranch Nursery was developed by James Rickert, who grew up in strawberry nursery country and always wondered why fumigation was essential. Starting in 2004, Prather Ranch has been growing certified organic strawberry nursery plants.

Our nursery is certified organic from CCOF- California Certified Organic Farmers.

Our fields are inspected prior to harvest by the California Department of Food and Agriculture to be sure that our plants are free from pests and diseases.

CA Nursery License # A0174.001.

2010 UPDATE: No organic stock this season. I am disgusted with the lack of enforcement in the organic strawberry industry and did not plant my nursery. Too many ‘organic’ strawberry growers were not following the rules and not buying organic stock. 95% of California ‘organic’ strawberry growers planted conventional strawberry plants in 2009, plants that were grown in a production system that used methyl bromide. Now with me not growing organic berry plants, every single ‘organic’ strawberry grown in the United States will come from a production system that uses methyl bromide. I will let them explain to consumers why ‘organic’ still uses methyl bromide.
